Since its creation in 2015, the network of Women in the Mining Sector of Côte d’Ivoire (FEMICI) has established itself as a key player in promoting women’s skills in the extractive industry, thanks to the leadership of successive presidents Pauline Tahi (2015-2018) and Christine LOGBO-KOSSI (Madame Mine) (2019-2024).
On July 20, 2024, Ingrid-Ariane YOUNG was unanimously chosen by the Extraordinary General Assembly to lead FEMICI. This consensus around her candidacy results from her six years of organizational commitment.
The election of Ingrid-Ariane Young as president of FEMICI marks a successful handover between two generations and heralds a new era. Her mission? To revitalize a network whose engagement has waned since the Covid-19 pandemic.
With five years of experience as a geologist, Ingrid-Ariane YOUNG is a committed and dedicated professional. Currently transitioning to Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), she is preparing two certificates to enhance her skills. Her transitional mandate, which extends until 2025, aims to remobilize women in the Ivorian mining sector, consolidate achievements, and open new perspectives.
Alongside Ingrid-Ariane is a team of competent and determined women working towards gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls in the mining sector: Laure N. and Me Johana N’dia-Kra.
Laure N’Guetta, the first vice president, is a specialist in occupational health and safety with over twelve years of experience in the mining sector. Passionate about female leadership, she has contributed to the creation of several women’s associations in the mining sector in Côte d’Ivoire and Senegal.
Me Johana N’dia-Kra, the second vice-president in charge of legal affairs, brings her expertise in project development in the energy, natural resources, and infrastructure sectors. With nearly eight years of experience, she regularly advises private investors on the commercial and regulatory aspects of their projects.
Under this new leadership, FEMICI is resolutely committed to a year of transition that will undoubtedly lay the foundations for a promising future for women in the mining sector in Côte d’Ivoire. As Nelson Mandela said, “to go far, you need to be many.” Together, they are determined to advance the cause of women in the extractive industry.
